Weather Alerts and Warnings
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms. These storms could lead to localized flooding, infrastructure damage, and risks to livelihoods and livestock. The warning specifically covers:
- Mpumalanga escarpment
- Western KwaZulu-Natal
- Northeastern Northern Cape
Authorities have advised residents to take precautions and avoid flood-prone areas.
Emergency Services on High Alert
Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi confirmed that while no major incidents have been reported, teams remain on standby across all seven regions.
“We are monitoring the situation closely, and we urge motorists to be cautious. Avoid crossing flooded roads and low-lying bridges. Residents in flood-prone areas should also avoid river streams while going about their daily activities,” Mulaudzi said.

- Gauteng: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers.
- Mpumalanga: Morning fog patches, scattered showers, and thundershowers, with warm conditions in the Lowveld.
- Limpopo: Cloudy and cool to warm, with showers and thundershowers in most areas except the Lowveld and Limpopo Valley.
- North West & Free State: Cloudy and cool to warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers.
- Northern Cape: Warm to hot, with showers and thundershowers in central and eastern areas.
- Western Cape: Cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and rain in the east.
- Eastern Cape: Cloudy and cool, with scattered thundershowers in the eastern half.
- KwaZulu-Natal: Cloudy and cool to warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers in the west and south.
