Marc Marquez made it four wins in a row to start the 2025 MotoGP season by clinching victory at the Argentina Grand Prix. However, this time, he had to work harder than before, as his younger brother Alex Marquez led for most of the race before Marc regained control in the final laps.
The eight-time world champion briefly lost the lead on lap four after running deep into Turn 1, allowing Alex to take charge until lap 22. Marc’s first attempt to reclaim the lead on lap 18 ended with a mistake, but he finally powered past Alex on the main straight with three laps to go, crossing the line 1.362 seconds ahead.
Despite his dominant start to the season, Marc declared Alex—not Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia—as his main championship rival. “Alex will win races this year, more than one! He has the ability to win a world championship,” Marc said, referencing his brother’s Moto2 and Moto3 titles.
Alex, riding a year-old GP24 Ducati for Gresini, secured his fourth consecutive second-place finish, marking the best MotoGP run of his career. “I’ve never felt this strong before in MotoGP,” he admitted.

Podium Shake-Up as Morbidelli Takes Third
While Alex continued his streak of runner-up finishes, Franco Morbidelli secured his first podium since the 2021 Spanish GP, taking third place ahead of Bagnaia. Morbidelli’s decision to use a softer rear tire paid off as he surged past Johann Zarco and Bagnaia early in the race, holding his position to the finish.
Bagnaia, who had started the season with three straight third-place finishes, settled for fourth, failing to match the pace of the VR46 Ducati.
Race Highlights
The race, held in warmer conditions than Saturday’s sprint, saw Marc Marquez take the early lead, followed by Alex and Bagnaia. However, an early incident sent Marco Bezzecchi into the gravel, taking Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo with him. Quartararo managed to continue but finished at the back of the field.
Behind the leaders, Fabio Di Giannantonio made a late charge to snatch fifth place from Zarco. KTM’s Brad Binder secured seventh, while Thai GP star Ai Ogura fought from 15th on the grid to finish eighth. Pedro Acosta and Joan Mir rounded out the top 10 after a race-long battle.
With this victory, Marc Marquez now holds a 16-point lead in the championship, setting the stage for an intense sibling rivalry as the season unfolds.
