The Western Cape Education Department is responsible for early childhood development, primary and secondary school education in the province. The Department's policy priorities are: to strengthen and expand quality learning opportunities for enhancing learning; enhance and expand enabling environments; strengthen functionality and accountability; and strengthen and enhance innovative adaptability and preparedness for changing context.
The Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) invites South African unemployed youth to apply for its Graduate Internship Programme, which provides a unique opportunity for individuals to gain practical work experience over a 24-month period (2025/2027). This program is designed to equip young graduates with the skills necessary for future career development.
Position Details:
- Position: Graduate Intern
- Stipend: R7,450.75 per month
- Duration: 24-Month Contract

Key Requirements:
- South African citizen, aged 34 or younger
- A 3-year Diploma or Degree (NQF 6 or 7) in relevant fields such as:
- Financial Management, Accounting, Internal Audit, Taxation
- Human Resource Management/Development, Industrial Psychology
- Public Management/Administration, Communication
- Psychology/Social Work
- Archives/Records Management, Information Technology
- Women and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Available Opportunities by Directorate/District:
- Head Office: Employee Relations, Recruitment, Financial Accounting, Examinations, Internal Control, and more.
- Rural Districts: Cape Winelands, Eden & Central Karoo, Overberg, West Coast.
- Metro Districts: Metro East, Metro North, Metro South, Metro Central.
Duties:
- Assist staff with general office duties such as research, data entry, filing, and coordination.
- Provide general administrative support to the designated office.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including good written and verbal communication in at least two official languages of the Western Cape.
- Ability to gather and process information.
