Website Railway Safety Regulator (RSR)
RSR was established in terms of the National Railway Safety Regulator Act, No 16 of 2002 (“the Act”) as amended, to establish a national regulatory framework for South Africa and to monitor and enforce compliance in the rail sector. The primary legislative mandate of the RSR is to oversee and enforce safety performance by all railway operators in South Africa, including those of neighbouring States whose rail operations enter South Africa.
The RSR invites South African school leavers and students aged 15-35 years who are currently studying or wish to pursue undergraduate studies at recognised and accredited institutions of higher learning (such as TVET Colleges, University of Technology and Private and Public Universities) in the following fields:
- Electrical, Civil and Mechanical Engineering
- Information Technology
- Human Resources Management
- Media and Communications
- Law
- Financial Management
- Internal Audit
- Supply Chain Management
- Risk Management
Requirements
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a South African citizen between the ages of 15-35 years.
- Must not be funded or receiving financial assistance through a sponsorship or bursary scheme from any other institution or organisation.
- Must be available for an interview when requested and be willing to sign a Bursary Agreement.
- Must submit proof of registration/ admission. Must be eligible to study for the specified qualification at the relevant institution of higher learning.
- For first-year applicants, Grade 11 results/Grade 12 mid-term results reflecting a minimum average of 65% must be submitted. All other applicants must provide their current academic record, reflecting a minimum average of 65% in the current year’s studies.

- Application forms are available at www.rsr.org.za/careers. Applications must be completed and submitted by 17 January 2025.
- Certified copy of admission/ registration letter for the academic year you are applying for.
- Certified copy of latest official Academic Record (if in tertiary institution) or Grade 11 results/Grade 12 mid-term results if currently in Matric.
- Certified copy of identification document (ID).
- Motivational letter.
- Quotation of academic year’s tuition fees.
- The RSR reserves the right to withdraw this bursary invitation without awarding any bursaries.
- The RSR will process all personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Act 4 of 2013.
