FlySafair & LIFT Airlines Resolve Check-In System Glitch After Major Delays

By | March 17, 2025

Passengers flying with FlySafair and LIFT Airlines can breathe a sigh of relief as both airlines have resolved the technical issues that caused major check-in delays over the weekend. The disruption, described as a “global systems issue,” led to long queues at check-in counters and significant flight delays.

What Caused the Check-In System Failure?

The exact cause of the glitch remains unclear, but technicians worked throughout the weekend to restore the systems. On Sunday, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) confirmed that the issue had affected both airlines, advising passengers to arrive earlier than usual to mitigate delays.

FlySafair’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kirby Gordon, assured travelers that the airline is investigating the root cause of the failure.

“Thanks to the support of our dedicated teams, 98% of flights yesterday (Sunday) departed on time, and systems were ultimately restored last night by 10 pm. So, all operations are normal from today (Monday) onwards,” Gordon stated.

Travel Chaos as Passengers Face Long Queues

The check-in system failure led to widespread frustration among travelers, with many forced to wait in long lines due to the technical difficulties. ACSA had urged passengers flying with FlySafair and LIFT Airlines to arrive at least three hours before regional flights and two hours before domestic flights to accommodate delays.

Despite the inconvenience, both airlines have now resumed normal operations, with flights departing on schedule.

What’s Next for Travelers?

As FlySafair continues its internal investigation, passengers are encouraged to check their airline’s official channels for any updates. While the issue has been resolved, travelers should still arrive at the airport with enough time to check in and board their flights smoothly.

For now, South African travelers can expect smoother flying experiences as operations return to normal.
