Disney has officially dropped the first trailer for the highly anticipated live-action remake of the beloved 2002 animated classic, Lilo & Stitch.
Starring Maia Kealoha as the spirited Lilo Pelekai, the film brings a heartwarming tale of family, friendship, and adventure to life, introducing a new generation to the chaotic yet lovable blue alien, Stitch.
After escaping captivity on his home planet, Stitch crash-lands on Earth, finding himself in Hawaii, where he crosses paths with Lilo. The lonely young girl, raised by her older sister Nani, had wished upon a shooting star for a best friend—and Stitch, though unexpected, quickly becomes an inseparable part of her world.
Despite his destructive tendencies, from honking at drivers to chugging a lava lamp, Stitch slowly learns the meaning of ohana—family, belonging, and unconditional love.
A Stellar Cast and Creative Team
Bringing this nostalgic favorite to life is Dean Fleischer Camp, who directs the film with a screenplay by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes.
The cast includes:
- Sydney Elizabeth Agudong as Nani Pelekai
- Zach Galifianakis
- Billy Magnussen
- Hannah Waddingham
- Courtney B. Vance
Adding to the excitement, Chris Sanders, the original writer and director of Lilo & Stitch, returns to voice Stitch in this new adaptation.
Following the live-action remake of Snow White, Lilo & Stitch is Disney’s second major remake of the year. It joins an expanding list of animated classics that have been reimagined, including The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Mulan, and Aladdin.
The film is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2025, promising a heartfelt journey filled with laughs, adventure, and nostalgia for both new and longtime fans.
