The Government Technical Advisory Centre provides on-demand technical, advisory and transaction support services to government departments. GTAC promotes public sector capacity building by leveraging strategic partnerships across the government and non-government sectors, with a particular focus on academia, research institutions and international development agencies. As an entity of the National Treasury, GTAC reports to the Minister of Finance.

Position Details

  • Position Title: Economics Intern (Ref No: CPAU Internship Programme/2024)
  • Chief Directorate: Capital Projects Appraisal
  • Division: Capital Projects Appraisal
  • Contract Period: 24 Months
  • Stipend: R154,077 per annum (all-inclusive)
  • Location: Pretoria

Who Can Apply?

To qualify, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Requirement: Completed Master’s degree in Economics or Econometrics.
  • Age Requirement: Between 18-35 years old.
  • Academic Performance: A good academic record with a minimum average of 60%.
  • Internship Status: Must not have participated in any internship programme previously.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
    • Theoretical understanding of applied microeconomics tools and methodologies.
    • Basic knowledge of economic and/or social infrastructure sectors.
    • Strong research and analysis skills.
    • Computer literacy.

Programme Purpose

The GTAC Internship Programme aims to provide participants with practical exposure and skills development in the public service sector, complementing their academic qualifications. Interns will work closely with the Capital Projects Appraisal Directorate, gaining valuable insights into public sector economics and infrastructure.
