McLaren has confirmed a new multi-year contract extension with Oscar Piastri, ensuring the talented Australian will remain with the team for the long term.
Piastri, who joined McLaren ahead of the 2023 season on a multi-year deal, quickly impressed and extended his contract after just 15 races of his debut year. The extension now runs until at least the end of 2026.
Piastri’s second season with McLaren saw significant growth, highlighted by his first two Grand Prix victories, six podium finishes, and a Sprint win. The 23-year-old’s remarkable consistency, finishing every lap of the 2024 season, helped propel him to a career-best fourth place in the Drivers’ Championship. His strong performances were integral to McLaren securing their first Constructors’ Championship title since 1998.
Reflecting on the news, Piastri shared his enthusiasm: “It’s a great feeling knowing that I’m part of McLaren’s long-term vision. The team had belief in me when we signed in 2022, and the journey we’ve gone on over the past two seasons to help return McLaren to the very top of the sport has been incredible.”
He added, “I’m excited to fight for the big prizes as a McLaren driver and after last year’s fantastic achievements, it has made me even hungrier to stay at the sharp end.”

McLaren CEO Zak Brown expressed his pride in Piastri’s extension, emphasizing his immense talent and invaluable contributions both on and off the track. “Oscar is not only an incredibly talented driver but also a perfect cultural fit for McLaren. His work ethic and attitude made it a no-brainer to extend his time with the team.”
Brown continued, “Having the best driver lineup on the grid is key, and Oscar’s role in securing our 2024 Constructors’ Championship was fundamental. We’re excited to see what we can achieve together in the coming years as we continue our fight for World Championships.”
Team Principal Andrea Stella also praised Piastri’s achievements and the growth of McLaren. “Extending our partnership with Oscar is a clear symbol of our belief in his ability and our shared ambition to continue fighting for Championships. It has been a pleasure working with him, and we look forward to watching him develop further as a driver and contribute to our team’s success.”
This extension is part of a broader strategy by McLaren to secure stability with key team members. Alongside Piastri’s deal, McLaren has recently locked down several senior figures, including CEO Zak Brown, Team Principal Andrea Stella, and fellow driver Lando Norris, ensuring the team’s core will continue working together for years to come.
